House of Aama’s origin story starts when the daughter, Akua Shabakka of the mother-daughter design duo told her mom Rebecca Henry, that she wanted clothes that represented her culture. With Rebecca’s skills and Akua’s eye, the two embarked on a journey that led them to form the House of Aama.

House of Aama is a Los Angeles brand that celebrates the history of African traditions, spirituality, and forgotten history. After attending Afro Punk, Rebecca and Akua realized that the demand for culturally representative fashion wasn’t just an idea from Akua. They learned that consumers and their fans desired sophisticated African fashion. This market opened up a world in which the House of Aama has thrived.  To date,  their brand has participated in NYFW twice, both in 2018 and 2023. The duo has made a name for their brand amongst the likes of celebrities like Chloe Bailey and major magazines like Essence and Vogue.
