I Luv Stevie

STEVIE EDWARDS Fashion designer Stevie Edwards born and raised on the Southside of Chicago got his start in fashion by attending Dunbar Vocational High School majoring in tailoring. After discovering his talent in fashion, he proceeded to continue his fashion journey by attending the Illinois Institute of Art majoring in Fashion Design. While participating in the school’s annual fashion show, Stevie’s designs were seen by the late great fashion icon Mrs. Eunice Johnson (Ebony, Jet), who then purchased Stevie’s designs to be included in the annual international ebony fashion fair show. This recognition also lead to an editorial spread in ebony magazine as “black designer on the rise” and an appearance on the Oprah Winfrey Show to receive recognition for his accomplishments.   Discovering his niche in fashion, Stevie went on to work under local designers such as Barbara Bates and Reginald Thomas where he gained more experience in his fashion journey. Branching off on his own, Stevie debuted his men/women collection which were carried in local boutiques around Chicago. There was such a high demand for his one of a kind designs Stevie decided to open his first freestanding boutique, ’collections’, in Hyde park, Collezioni studio in the West Loop and his duplex store Collezioni in the Gold Coast. Life In Clothes

Ramal Shine owner of Life In Clothes  to Return to the Black Fashion Week USA Lifestyle  Runway show  on Sunday, February 26th, 2017   Chicago designer Ramal Shine has always had an interest in art since early childhood. The creativity once lapped into a more creative fashion design at the age of 12, from an 8th grade art project. From free styling a design which grabbed much attention during an 8th grade field trip, Ramal gained more interest into not only making clothes, but having an individual style of creativity and putting those creations into fashion designs. Being more of a hobby throughout the high school years, that one grammar school design had then become a worldwide selling sensation in many stores across the country without the awareness of designer Ramal Shine. After the teaching of self, of becoming a tailor and soon after turning the hobby into a profession, Ramal then and now continues to work into creating and building a brand of statement apparel called LIC, Life in Clothes. As well as the RSDC. Developing the style from the point LIC was no longer a hobby and now a portfolio has been in the development process from time to come. His portfolio contains freestyles and 1 of 1 designs. Connect with him on Sunday February 26th at the DuSable Museum of African American History. www.bfwusafeb26.eventbrite.com        ...

Brown Girls Strut Their Walk During Latino Fashion Week

This past weekend, I attended Latino Fashion Week. The show featured 3 international designers; Paulina Luna from Guadalajara, The Minc Sisters From  Argentina and Carlos De Moya  from the Dominincan Republic .The event was spectacular with  a host of local businesses, media, photographers and enthusiastic fashion lovers.  One thing I noticed immediately was the high level of  diversity that was showcased on the runway  with a great representation of   Latino, Asian, Caucasian and Brown Girls( Black Models) on the Runway. I  actually managed to spot a few brown girls coming down the runway wearing some of the most gorgeous, luxurious, colorful fashions through out  the show  thanks to my good photographer friend  Darel White  of Darel white Photography.  This show was not doubt one of the best runways this year in Chicago, depicting diversity and people uniting together  for a cause to celebrate the cultural Aesthetics of their heritage and support local and national  charity campaigns such as reliefs for both hurricane Irma and Maria that impacted parts of Puerto Rico. Thumbs up to Latino Fashion Week for continuing to showcase great fashion in the Windy City and a taste of diversity on the runway giving brown girls opportunity to strut their walk. you can check out Latino Fashion Week out online at https://www.latinofashionwk.com/   Written by Melody B. Check Out Gabrielle Union’s New CollectionAt NewYork & Company

Check Out the New Collection of Gabrielle Union At Newyork & Company New York Fashion Week is always a busy week for new yorkers, and this year proved to be just that for Actress and wife of basketball star Dwyane Wade.  Gabrielle Union  has been  detected on the fashion radar in NYC during the last week  wearing  her new collection that launched  globally for New York and Company.Which by the way is still one of my  all time fav store to shop for trendy, stylish career and casual clothing.  What I love about her newest collection is the vibrant contrast of the colors of blue and yellow in her collection. Taking from this season’s fashion trends you see a few mixture of patterns which is a big thing this season. Her collections features a few oriental prints along with dresses and jackets made of brocades and jacquard prints.  With a collection that utilizes a lot of stretch her pieces were designed to be comfy and stylish plus affordable, with her all her pieces under $100 except outerwear.  It’s really good to see her  fashion collaboration with such a moderate retailer that women can shop without breaking the bank.  So just incase you missed the grand debut of her collections last month and during the last week. Don’t worry head to your nearest mall, where you can witness the action in store  and you may be even able to meet her soon, as she’s announced that throughout the year she plans to visit stores to promote her new collections and connect with her fans. Way to Go to Gabby for...
