The Adinkra Symbol collection was created by Black Fashion Week to uplift and celebrate the rich cultural history of Adinkra symbols, which originated in Ghana West Africa and depicts a concept or value.

This collection draws inspiration from prominent symbols throughout the Africa Fashion Chicago Exhibit, which spotlights contemporary Chicago designers and their connection to African fashion in design, culture, and color.

The main Adinkra Symbol on display in the exhibit features the “Transformation Symbol” which combines the Morning Star symbol( which represents a new start, rotation, or independent movement) and the Wheel symbol ( which represents independent movement and self-determination of direction).Combined the symbol translates as “change or transform your character”. The symbol encourages people, especially the youth, to make positive changes in themselves and the world.
